Kyleakin — the gateway to Skye
Kyleakin is one of Skye's most accessible and charming villages, sitting right beside the Skye Bridge at the island's southern entrance. It's a quiet, friendly community with a natural harbour and spectacular views across the Kyle of Lochalsh to the mainland.
From here, you're ideally placed to explore the whole island. The dramatic Cuillin mountains, the magical Fairy Pools, the castle at Dunvegan — everything is within easy driving distance. And when you're done, Maisy's Hideaway is waiting quietly at the end of a peaceful lane.
There's a small Co-op in Kyleakin itself for essentials, with larger supermarkets in Kyle of Lochalsh just over the bridge (5 minutes by car), and a full range of shops, restaurants and cafés in Portree (around 30 minutes north).

Easy to reach from across Scotland
Kyleakin is at the Skye Bridge end of the island — one of the easiest parts of Skye to get to, whether you're coming by car, bus or train.
🚗 By Car
The Skye Bridge connects Kyleakin directly to Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland — no toll, no ferry. From Inverness it's around 2 hours; from Glasgow around 3 hours 15 minutes. Maisy's Hideaway is just off the main road through Kyleakin, with private parking at the rear.
🚂 By Train
The Kyle of Lochalsh railway line from Inverness is one of Scotland's most scenic routes. Kyle of Lochalsh station is a 5-minute drive from Maisy's Hideaway — a taxi or pre-arranged transfer will get you straight to the door.
🚌 By Bus
CityLink and Stagecoach services run to Kyle of Lochalsh and Portree from Inverness and Glasgow. From Kyle you can take a local bus to Kyleakin, or arrange a short taxi transfer.
✈️ By Air
The nearest airports are Inverness (Dalcross) and Glasgow International. Inverness is around 2 hours by road; Glasgow around 3 hours 30 minutes. Car hire is available at both airports.
